There is no doubt that Mostert is underpaid. He isn't even the highest-paid running back on the roster. That would be Tevin Coleman, despite Mostert being expected to bear most of the workload this season.
Mostert is scheduled to earn a base salary of just $2.575 million in 2020 and won't become a free agent until 2022.

Rookies are scheduled to report to training camp tomorrow. Quarterbacks and injured players will arrive on Thursday. Mostert and the others are slated to report next week.
Mostert recently reached out to the 49ers, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It sounds like the two sides hope to move forward, but Mostert and his agent remain hopeful that a new deal can be worked out.
Mostert led the 49ers with 772 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns on 137 carries last season. His 29-carry, 220-yard, and four-touchdown performance against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game helped lift San Francisco to a Super Bowl appearance.
