The San Francisco 49ers have raised a "Black Lives Matter" flag at Levi's Stadium. The team posted two photos of the flag to Instagram, which shows it flying next to the California and United States flags (h/t to Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee).

"Indivisible with liberty and justice for all," read the caption to the Instagram post.

While several 49ers players have been very vocal in their support of "Black Lives Matter," so has team CEO Jed York, who in May announced a $1 million donation from the team to local and national organizations who are "creating change."

"Any time you see heinous acts, you have to be able to call them out," York said earlier this month. "But in terms of the pledge, I think it's very important that actions and words need to go together if you're going to facilitate change in America, and that's what we wanted to do.

"We wanted to make sure that we were helping people that are on the front lines fighting racial inequality in this country do their work in a slightly better way today than what they could yesterday."

Cornerback Richard Sherman told the Los Angeles Times over the weekend that he expects NFL players to more freely voice their opinions on the topic of systematic discrimination, with awareness at an all-time high.


"I expect a lot more of them to convey these messages, to convey messages about police brutality, equality, the systematic racism that's been going on," Sherman said. "And to have statistics. Because we have really intelligent and sharp players in our league who get the information and convey it. That's the part where fans are going to have to work with us a little bit.

"With football, you want to forget about politics. You want to forget about all the stuff you have going on. But right now, you can't."
