"Many say I'll get traded, many say I'll stay," wrote Goodwin. "Only ownership knows for sure. Would you like to see me stay (with the 49ers)? For the ones that hate me, where do you think I'll potentially go?"
A report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network surfaced earlier this month, stating that Goodwin's name has been discussed in trade talks. He is set to count over $11 million against the salary cap over the next two seasons.
The NFL on Sunday set the salary cap for 2020 at $198.2 million — nearly $2 million less than expected. That gives the 49ers almost $13 million to play with, as of right now. That is a significantly smaller surplus than the team has owned over the past few seasons. That wasn't unexpected, considering the roster improved enough to get the team to the Super Bowl this past season.
San Francisco also has several players scheduled to hit free agency this week, including Arik Armstead, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jimmie Ward. It is also trying to work out long-term deals with key players like George Kittle and DeForest Buckner.
On the wide-receiver front, the 49ers hope to get Trent Taylor and possibly Jalen Hurd back in time for the upcoming season. The team saw Deebo Samuel emerge during his rookie campaign, as well.
San Francisco owns six selections in a deep receiver draft but doesn't currently hold a pick between rounds one and five. Adding some draft equity might go a long way toward remaining competitive, especially considering Sanders appears poised to test free agency.
Goodwin, 29, landed on injured reserve on December 10. He registered just 12 receptions for 186 yards with a touchdown through nine games and six starts this past season.
H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.
