The New England Patriots received the most compensatory picks this year with four, including two third-rounders. Six other teams each received three additional selections, including the division-rival Seattle Seahawks. They received third-, fourth-, and sixth-round selections. Another NFC West team, the Los Angeles Rams, received a third-rounder.
In total, 32 compensatory picks were awarded.
Compensatory picks are awarded to teams that lost more valuable free agents than they gained the year before. That was not the case for the 49ers in 2019.
San Francisco owns the following selections in the 2020 NFL Draft.
- Round 1, Pick 31
- Round 5, Pick 156 (from Broncos)
- Round 5, Pick 176
- Round 6, Pick 210
- Round 7, Pick 217 (from Lions)
- Round 7, Pick 245
The 49ers traded their second-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for pass rusher Dee Ford last offseason, and then sent their third- and fourth-rounders to the Denver Broncos in October in exchange for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
Sanders is scheduled to become a free agent next week and stated on Monday that the 49ers have not made an offer to him nor have they initiated contract talks.
