For now, the 49ers sit at No. 31, and Kiper still has them selecting former LSU safety Grant Delpit.
"Team needs will change, obviously, as free agency sorts itself out," writes Kiper, "but these are my 1-32 predictions for every team as it stands right now, using a combination of my Big Board rankings, how I see each team's needs and which positions could be upgraded."
As for the Delpit to 49ers selection itself, Kiper wrote the following:
"As I mentioned last month, the 49ers have to get this pick right because they don't have another selection until the fifth round. No pressure, general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan. Delpit struggled through an ankle injury last season and needs work as a tackler, but I'm betting on his upside as an athletic, versatile safety. The Niners could lose Jimmie Ward in free agency, and Delpit would help fill that void. Wide receiver is also an interesting position to keep an eye on for San Francisco, which could let free-agent Emmanuel Sanderswalk and replace him with a playmaker from a super-deep class."
Delpit finished his collegiate career with 199 tackles, 17.5 for a loss, seven sacks, eight interceptions, 24 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. His best season came during his 2018 sophomore year when he racked up 74 tackles, 9.5 for a loss, five sacks, five interceptions, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
