Wide receiver Dante Pettis, who hasn't been much of a factor for San Francisco's offense this season, is inactive for the big game. Meanwhile, second-year running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is active for the contest despite appearing in only 10 regular-season games and the team boasting three other starting-caliber running backs, Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida and Raheem Mostert.
But Coleman suffered a separated shoulder during the 49ers' NFC Championship game over the Green Bay Packers two weeks ago. While the Niners medical staff cleared Coleman to play in Super Bowl LIV, it's possible Shanahan wanted to have a bit more depth at the position.
The 49ers inactives for the Super Bowl are as follows:
-
QB C.J. Beathard
-
WR Dante Pettis
-
CB Dontae Johnson
-
TE Daniel Helm
-
LB Azeez Al-Shaair
-
WR Jordan Matthews
- DL Kevin Givens
The Niners and Chiefs kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET from Hard Rock Stadium.
