Maybe.
Who knows what to believe, at this point? It may be a smokescreen, for all I know.
Anyway, Jones was asked on Wednesday by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero if the plan is to put the game on 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's shoulders.
"1,000 percent," he responded. "And we'll see where it goes from there."
That was after Jones said the main focus had to be on stopping the 49ers' rushing attack.
"We've got to stop the run," Jones said. "Last game, they threw eight passes and scored over 30 points. If a team can do that, they're very dangerous. They love to control the tempo of the game. They love to control how the game is played. We've got to stop that."
Garoppolo, of course, was asked during his Wednesday media session about Jones' comments and provided a nice politically-correct response.
"It's great," Garoppolo said. "Team have tried that this year. I think our offense does a great job, starting with Kyle (Shanahan), just with the play calling. But they do a great job of getting us in good situations, whether its run or pass, and we just do the rest."
Garoppolo's teammates have a lot of faith in their quarterback and the 49ers' ability to game plan.
"We're not really worried about what him or anybody else is saying about us," running back Raheem Mostert said when asked about Jones' comment. "We're going to do what we do, and if they feel like they can stop it, then we're going to go ahead and do what Jimmy does. We're going to have his back. Jimmy's a great quarterback, and we feel he's done an unbelievable job this season."
