No throwbacks: 49ers will sport traditional road jerseys vs. Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV

There was some brief hope that the San Francisco 49ers might be allowed to wear their all-white throwback jerseys when they take the field at Super Bowl LIV to face the Kansas City Chiefs. The players, like cornerback Richard Sherman, had hoped to make a push to do so. That won't be the case, it seems.

San Francisco wore its all-white throwbacks twice this season. The first was during a Week 8 home win over the Carolina Panthers, and the last was during the team's Week 17 road victory over the Seattle Seahawks. There will be no third time.


NBC Sports Bay Area is reporting that the 49ers will sport their traditional road jerseys in Miami.

San Francisco is 2-0 in the Super Bowl while wearing its white road uniforms. The 49ers did so during their first Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XVI, when they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals. They did so again in Super Bowl XXIV in a rout of the Denver Broncos.

The 49ers' lone Super Bowl loss came in Super Bowl XLVII against the Baltimore Ravens.

San Francisco is 5-1 this season while wearing its traditional road uniforms.
