The defense got to Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins six times. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead had one of those sacks and two quarterback hits.
NBC Sports' Michele Tafoya caught up with Armstead after the game and asked what made the defense so effective against a hot Minnesota squad.
"We were relentless out there, and we executed our game plan," Armstead responded. "The coaches put up a good game plan, and the guys did a great job executing and being relentless."
The 49ers defense received a boost by getting defensive end Dee Ford and Kwon Alexander back in the lineup. It was Ford's first game since December 8, 2019, when he re-aggravated a hamstring injury, and it was Alexander's first game back since he suffered a torn pectoral muscle on October 31, 2019.
"It was huge to have those guys back," Armstead said. "They're leaders on our team, talented players that make big plays for us."
How does Armstead feel about advancing to his first NFC Championship Game after his first NFL playoff win?
"It's amazing, especially with the adversity we've had with this organization," Armstead answered. "To have this year, and continue playing in this postseason, it means that much more to us."
