Shanahan was asked specifically about his injured safety, Jaquiski Tartt, and whether or not he will practice on Tuesday. The 49ers are holding a practice a day earlier than usual thanks to having played their last game on Saturday night. It allows Shanahan to give his players Christmas Day off.
"I don't have to talk about it today," Shanahan responded. "I'm not giving them a day ahead of us. Legally, I'm allowed to not talk about it until tomorrow. You guys can guess when you watch individual (drills during practice)."
Reporters did watch the beginning portion of practice and looked for Tartt. The safety was out there for the first time since suffering a rib injury during Week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. He was, however, wearing a blue no-contact jersey.
Shanahan's decision to not discuss injuries on Tuesday means reporters had to figure out players' statuses on their own. Other players in blue no-contact jerseys were defensive back Tarvarius Moore (concussion) and wide receiver Deebo Samuel (undisclosed injury).
Defensive end Dee Ford did not appear to practice. Shanahan has already stated that his veteran pass rusher is unlikely to be ready before the playoffs.
Defensive lineman Jullian Taylor (elbow), who has been inactive the last three games, was on the field for Tuesday's practice but had a brace on his elbow.
