"You think the 49ers are going to the Super Bowl?" Thomas responded to the asking reporter.
That's the comment that has sparked a little bit of media attention, as if Thomas doesn't see San Francisco as a potential Super Bowl contender.
"It could be," Thomas continued, however. "Let's see. We just go out there and try to play the best football we can possibly do, and when the Super Bowl comes, whoever we play, they going to be in trouble."
Perhaps trying to provide the 49ers with some added motivation or create a storyline where there really isn't one, cornerback Richard Sherman on Wednesday was asked about Thomas' comment.
"It don't make no never mind to me," Sherman responded. "I don't really worry about that. We're a 10-1 ball club. We're going to continue to do what we've done to get to where we're at. Worrying about what other people say doesn't change how we're going to go out there and play.
"We've got to go out there and execute. They're a good team, and we'll go out, and we'll let the chips fall where they may.
"This is the regular season. This isn't the playoffs, so whether you win or lose this game, nobody gets to go home. You have another game after this.
"At the end of the day, statements like that are irrelevant in the grand scheme of this. There's a long time between now and February, and we hope to take it a game at a time, and we'll see what happens."
Sherman and Thomas were teammates for seven years in Seattle. Sherman signed with the 49ers last year while Thomas joined the Ravens in March. The two will see each other on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium and, if the hype is to be believed, could see each other again in February.
