San Francisco has promoted defensive lineman Jeremiah Valoaga from the practice squad to take Moore's spot on the roster. The 49ers also announced the signing of defensive lineman Alex Barrett to the practice squad.
The 49ers initially signed Valoaga on August 8 after the Miami Dolphins waived him on May 1. San Francisco waived the defensive lineman during the team's roster cut-down on August 31 but signed him to the practice squad the next day, where he has remained.
"He'll do a good job," general manager John Lynch said via KNBR on Wednesday morning. "I think that's one thing, such a competitive group. Those guys have to bring it every day to get their snaps, and we had depth in preseason, and I think we still have great depth."
Valoaga entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of UNLV with the Detroit Lions in 2017. He registered five combined tackles and a sack through nine games with the Lions that year.
Valoaga will wear number 92.
Moore spent the offseason with the 49ers after spending time with the San Diego Fleet of the now-defunct Alliance of American Football league. Before that, he spent six seasons in the NFL, which included time with the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, and Oakland Raiders.
The Giants made Moore a third-round draft pick in 2013.
Moore, who was also part of San Francisco's roster cut-down, rejoined the 49ers on November 13, taking the roster spot of Ronald Blair, who landed on injured reserve with an ACL injury. Moore finished the year with five tackles and a forced fumble through his two games with San Francisco.
"He just put everything on the line, doing everything he could to earn a job," Shanahan said of Moore on Monday. "And what he's done in these two weeks here, just coming right off the street, coming in, playing at a high level, getting a huge turnover for us the first week, he did some real good things for us last week."
Barrett entered the NFL after signing with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 12, 2017. He appeared in two games that season and registered one tackle and a sack before being waived by the team on September 20, 2017, and then signed to the practice squad two days later.
Barrett was signed by the Oakland Raiders on April 6 and was waived on September 3.
