The San Francisco 49ers fell behind 16-0 on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals but mounted a comeback and won the game 36-26. At no point did the players lose faith in their chances to overcome the deficit, though.

Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. joined KNBR on Tuesday and shared what was going through the minds of the 49ers players during the hard-fought rally.


"Everybody was just saying, 'It's time to lock in,'" Wilson told Greg Papa and John Lund. "We also know this is a league where everybody's good. You've got first-rounders, second-rounders, on every team so any given Sunday, anything can happen. We know they're not a pushover team. It's just the fact that we knew we were going to face adversity at some point in that game. Everybody has to. It's just how we were going to overcome it.

"So it's something that we already knew. It was just the fact of getting back to ourselves, and let us know, 'Hey, it's time to go.'"

Wilson, by the way, was on the field for one offensive snap, and he made the most of the opportunity. The running back beat a ferocious blitz by the Cardinals defense, hauled in a pass from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and scampered into the end zone, helping lift the 49ers to a 9-1 record.


To say he was overjoyed would be an understatement.

"It was just like all the pain I ever felt, all the mistakes I ever made, all the good times I ever had, just all that came out and went," Wilson said. "This game meant a lot to me. Obviously, just not playing the whole game, just to get one play, and then the play, you get in and score, and it's for a big moment for the game, it was just all so surreal to me."
