The San Francisco 49ers should have their full complement of running backs on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals. Neither Matt Breida nor Raheem Mostert practiced on Tuesday, and even though head coach Kyle Shanahan has not seen his players yet this morning, he said on KNBR that both should be healthy enough to play.

Bonnie-Jill Laflin asked Shanahan about Breida, Mostert, defensive end Dee Ford, and tackle Joe Staley.


"I haven't seen any of the guys today yet, just because of our weird schedule," Shanahan responded on the "Murph and Mac" show. "I'm trying to get the guys in a little bit later, give them a couple of more hours of sleep, so I'll see them when they come in.

"All those guys you mentioned, I think have a good chance to go tomorrow night. Staley, I'd say, has the worst [chance]."

Shanahan further discussed his two injured running backs.

"They weren't able to do much yesterday," the coach continued. "I don't think it would be an issue if we were playing Sunday. It's just a little bit of an issue because of how quick this game is coming. So when we travel there tonight, really, how they wake up in the morning will be the biggest (indicator). Sometimes there's always a little effect when you travel, just the swelling and things like that.

"If they aren't good enough to go, obviously they won't, but just knowing Breida, knowing Raheem, I have a feeling they'll be alright."


Both the 49ers and Cardinals are preparing for the game on a short week, and San Francisco isn't holding a full practice this week. The team held a rare late walkthrough at Levi's Stadium on Tuesday night and will travel tonight to Arizona after another light walkthrough.
