"They're OK. They're OK," Irvin responded. "They're not world-beaters."
Keep in mind that the 49ers had just dismantled Irvin's Panthers by a score of 51-13. It was a dominating performance by the home team in all aspects of the game, which makes Irvin's response baffling.
San Francisco defensive end Nick Bosa, who was one of the stars in the game, was told about the comments by a reporter during his post-game presser. Bosa's response was perfect and indicative of the team's attitude this season.
"I don't care," Bosa said after shaking his head.
Then, he walked away from the podium to join his teammates.
The 49ers don't care what others are saying about them. They have dealt with disrespect all year. For much of the season, despite being undefeated, there remained many doubters. The 49ers players, however, have always believed in themselves and don't really listen to the outside noise. They may hear about it, but they don't let it negatively impact them.
San Francisco enters each game the same way — focused on the upcoming opponent. It's doubtful that a disrespectful comment like Irvin's is going to serve as anything except motivation for this team going forward.
