WR Marquise Goodwin missed his second straight practice. Although, his absence is for personal reasons and is not injury-related. On Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan was uncertain if Goodwin would play against the Panthers.
"Obviously, we hope so, but that depends where he's at," Shanahan said. "If [the game] was today, definitely not. We'll see how he does on Sunday but we've got a couple more days before that."
Goodwin, along with RB Raheem Mostert (knee) and TE Levine Toilolo (groin), is listed as questionable for Sunday. Shanahan said if the 49ers had a game today, Toilolo would not be able to play.
Toilolo has been helping the young tackles, who are filling in for injured starters Joe Staley (fibula) and Mike McGlinchey (knee). Shanahan was asked if there is a replacement for Toilolo's role if he can't play on Sunday.
"No, there isn't right now," Shanahan responded. "We've been battling that for about a month now, and we've been fortunate with the tight ends. It's been tough because one of them, (Ross) Dwelley, has gotten to replace the fullback. So it would be a lot to deal with if he's not able to go on Sunday. He's going to give it his best."
Staley practiced on a limited basis for the third straight day. Shanahan has said the veteran tackle's "most likely" return would be during Thursday night's Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Staley is listed as doubtful for Sunday.
For the Panthers, QB Cam Newton (foot) has been ruled out. He will, however, make the trip to the West Coast with his teammates. The only other Panthers ruled out for Sunday are LB Christian Miller (ankle) and OT Greg Little (concussion). Everyone else is expected to play, according to multiple reports.
Below are the official injury reports for the 49ers and Panthers, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff. Also included are this week's practice participation reports.
