The San Francisco 49ers defense is allowing just 10.7 points per game, which is good enough to rank No. 2 in the NFL (New England is allowing eight per game). It ranks No. 1 in total yards allowed and passing yards allowed, and No. 8 in rushing yards allowed. The defense has allowed just 10 points over the past three games.

It's a good defense. That is undeniable. That's why the 49ers can pull off victories even if the offense isn't able to get into the end zone, as they didn't on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.


Ian Rapoport of NFL Network joined KNBR on Monday morning and shared his thoughts on San Francisco's impressive defensive unit, which has helped lift the team to a 6-0 record. Rapoport believes the 49ers defense might be the one that opposing quarterbacks are least interested in facing in a game. It is that good.

"There's so many different weird ways they can attack you," Rapoport said on the "Murph and Mac" show. "Obviously, the takeaways, we know about. They catch interceptions this year, but they also make you so uncomfortable. Everyone is so tall and big up front. Bosa's great. They get after you, and then they will probably let you know about it a little bit.

"They have Robert Saleh on the sidelines, who is very excited about a lot of things. If you're getting your ass kicked, you don't like to see that either. I would say (the 49ers are) definitely in the top three of defenses I would least want to face.

"Then the other thing is, there are times when teams will get hot, and I'm sure, at some point, the 49ers defense will hit a little bit of a lull. But I don't think defenses go in slumps. Like, they could have injuries, but they're not 'hot,' for instance. I think they're just good."
