Also missing was pass rusher Dee Ford, who is dealing with the recurrence of the knee tendinitis that kept him out of the preseason. Ford has said he plans to play through the discomfort this season.
The good news is that cornerback Jason Verrett was practicing. He left the 49ers' Week 3 game against the Steelers a bit "nicked up," according to general manager John Lynch.
Hurd suffered a back injury during the 49ers' second preseason game and hasn't played or practiced since then. San Francisco made Hurd a third-round draft pick out of Baylor in April.
"I mean, he had a fracture in his back," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on September 23. "A hairline deal, something. It's been a serious injury, that's why he had to rest it for about a month, and we're getting close to where he should be ready to go. Hopefully, it'll work out right for him. You never know when they come back out if that can act up again, but we feel it's healing up, and hopefully, he'll be able to come out here and help us."
Coleman has been dealing with a high-ankle sprain since Week 1. The injury occurred during the first play of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Lynch joined KNBR last week and shared what Coleman brings to San Francisco's running back group.
"Tevin is a little bit unique in that he does everything really well," Lynch said. "He can catch it. He can run with power. He can run with speed, elusiveness. So that's where Tevin is of great value to us."
Coleman was seen warming up on a side field.
We aren't likely to see a team-issued injury report until Thursday, thanks to the 49ers' next game being on Monday night.
