Verrett was targeted as soon as he entered the game in the fourth quarter and was flagged for pass interference and then beaten by Steelers wideout Diontae Johnson for a 39-yard touchdown. Verrett was replaced by Emmanuel Moseley on the next series.
San Francisco ended up winning the game and now owns a 3-0 record for the first time since 1998.
Witherspoon was carted to the locker room after the injury. He was seen after the game wearing a walking boot and told Nick Wagoner of ESPN that he believes he is dealing with a low right-foot sprain.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted that Witherspoon's injury was the only one on San Francisco's side from the game.
The 49ers are entering their bye week and will next play a game on Monday, October 7 when the team hosts the Cleveland Browns.
