It was Garoppolo's highest passer rating with the 49ers and his highest since September 18, 2016, against Miami Dolphins as a member of the New England Patriots.
NFL.com analysts were among those who took notice. Garoppolo found himself up seven spots from last week in the site's QB Index, landing at No. 16.
Dan Parr of NFL.com wrote the following of Garoppolo:
"Are we witnessing the beginning of the Jimmy G ascent the 49ers have long been waiting for? Garoppolo did have an ugly pick early vs. the Bengals on Sunday, but he bounced back to have his best game as a Niner. The key to his good start? It might be the combination of a strong running game with Kyle Shanahan's play-calling. Garoppolo has a perfect passer rating on play-action passes (15 of 19 for 280 yards, 3:0 TD-to-INT ratio and a whopping 14.7 yards per attempt, per Pro Football Focus)."
Garoppolo's move up the chart still wasn't enough to overtake any of his fellow NFC West quarterbacks.
Kyler Murray, a rookie with the Arizona Cardinals, also saw a seven-spot jump, remaining one position higher than Garoppolo at No. 15. Continuing around the NFC West, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson sits at No. 3 within the ranking while Jared Goff sits at No. 11.
The unproven Mason Rudolph of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the 49ers' opponent on Sunday, finds himself at the No. 29 spot.
H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.
