NBC Sports Bay Area reported on Wednesday that the 49ers are not interested in making a strong push to acquire the Jacksonville Jaguars' All-Pro cornerback, Jalen Ramsey. At least, not at the current cost.
Big flashy deals are the 49ers' M.O. Sure they traded second-round picks for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and pass rusher Dee Ford. But they also weren't interested in giving up too much for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. when that opportunity presented itself. Although, they feel they made a very competitive offer for Beckham.
Hearing that the 49ers aren't in play for one of the best defenders in football may frustrate fans, yet San Francisco still sits at 2-0 with a chance to go 3-0 for the first time since 1998. That's enough to provide confidence in the team's patient and methodical rebuilding plan.
Shanahan says he views roster moves now the same way he did when the 49ers were 0-9 in 2017.
"I don't feel any different being 2-0," Shanahan told reporters before Wednesday's practice. "I know, very easily, we could be 1-1. We're up 14-7, and we have a turnover, they could have made it 14-14 like that. Our defense ended up holding them. We got it back, and, really, scores on three possessions. [...] It's just a few plays away from that not being the case, so I don't get caught up in that at all. It's pretty easy.
"We listen to everything. We're always going to entertain everything, but our record right now doesn't change anything."
