The San Francisco 49ers' 2-0 start to the season may have caught many off guard but running back Matt Breida doesn't sound too surprised. He joined KNBR on Wednesday and shared why the team's first 2-0 start in seven years isn't that big a deal in the 49ers locker room.

"Honestly, to me, it's part of our job," Breida said on the "Murph and Mac" show. "It's part of what we're supposed to do. We're supposed to go out there and put up wins. Around here, it's not a big thing. It's expected of us, and I feel like we've been expecting that for the past two years, since I've been here. So for us to finally be on a good track right now, we've just got to keep it going, keep working, and never forget where we came from, where we started."


Breida is coming off his fourth career 100-plus-yard game rushing the football and his second-highest yardage total since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2017. He rushed for 121 yards on 12 carries while adding a reception for 11 yards in the 49ers' 41-17 blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals this past weekend.

For those unable to do math quickly in their heads, Breida had an average of over 10 yards per carry during the Week 2 matchup. No, that is not a typo.

Breida didn't do it alone and gave credit for the running backs' success to the 49ers offensive line.

"To me, they're one of the best offensive lines in the NFL," Breida said. "Even last year, with the success we had running the ball. They're just great in general. Pass blocking, run blocking, they're all on the same page, and they're a very tight-knit group. [...] For all the hard work and dirty work, they deserve the credit."


Breida also wanted to credit members of the Niner Faithful for their part in the team's first two wins. He noticed a considerable presence of 49ers fans at Raymond James Stadium and Paul Brown Stadium.

"It kind of almost felt like home games for us," Breida said. "That's the one thing I'll say about our fan base, The Faithful; they travel well, and they're always out there supporting us. I love them. [...] It's just an awesome feeling when you can have your fans out there supporting you, no matter where you're at."
