The Steelers are sending a 2020 first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for Fitzpatrick, reports Schefter. The deal gives Miami three first-round draft picks next year.
There's no word if Fitzpatrick will be ready to step into the Steelers defense in time for Sunday's game against the 49ers, but he will be there at Levi's Stadium for San Francisco's home opener.
Pittsburgh was one of the teams recently named by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports as potential landing spots for Fitzpatrick after roughly 20 teams reached out to inquire about the defensive back. The others were Washington, Dallas, Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Seattle.
The Dolphins made Fitzpatrick, who played college football at Alabama, the No. 11 overall selection in 2018. He registered 12 combined tackles and a forced fumble through the first two games of this season.
Fitzpatrick has recorded 92 combined tackles, nine passes defensed, two interceptions, a touchdown, and a forced fumble through his two NFL seasons.
H/t to Chris Wilson for the find.
