But he'll at least manage to provide some presence, most likely in obvious third-down pass-defense packages.
Yet the Niners won't have cornerback Jason Verrett (ankle) active for Week 2, who was listed in the team's inactive report for Sunday's contest:
- QB C.J. Beathard
- WR Trent Taylor
- WR Jalen Hurd
- DB Jimmie Ward
- RB Tevin Coleman
- DB Jason Verrett
- OL Daniel Brunskill
Verrett had been dealing with his ankle injury into Week 1, although he was cleared for practice last week. Given how well cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Ahkello Witherspoon played in Tampa last week, along with the fact that Verrett doesn't play nickel or on special teams, it's not overly surprising to see San Francisco's offseason pickup inactive.
Running back Tevin Coleman (ankle) is expected to be out for a few weeks, probably not being considered for a return until after the 49ers bye week in Week 4. Same with wide receivers Trent Taylor (foot) and Jalen Hurd (back).
The 49ers and Bengals kick off at 1 p.m. ET from Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.
