Rookie wide receiver Jalen Hurd has not played since the San Francisco 49ers' second preseason game. He has been dealing with a back injury since. Wide receiver Trent Taylor suffered a fractured foot before that game and has not played or practiced since August 8.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan hopes to get his offensive weapons back after the team's Week 4 bye, maybe even sooner.


"[Having them back after the bye is] the plan," Shanahan told reporters after Friday's practice in Youngstown, Ohio. "I hope so, and I hope there's a chance next week. But that's really the goal."

Shanahan views running back Tevin Coleman's (ankle) status as similar to his injured receivers'. He, like the Hurd and Taylor, is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The hope is to have Coleman back after the bye week with anything before that being a bonus.

The 49ers selected Hurd in the third round of April's draft. He was the second of two receivers drafted. The other, Deebo Samuel, did play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and recorded three catches for 17 yards but also lost a fumble.

Hurd had three catches for 31 yards and two touchdowns during his 49ers debut in an August 10 preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The 49ers made Taylor a fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech in 2017. He is in his third NFL season.


San Francisco signed Coleman to a two-year deal in March. He started Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
