On Thursday, Jimmie Ward had surgery on the broken finger he suffered during Wednesday's practice. He did not practice on Friday. Nor did wide receivers Trent Taylor (foot) or Jalen Hurd (back). We already knew Taylor would miss Sunday's game. Hurd, the 49ers' third-round draft pick, has not practiced this week and is unlikely to play.
All three have been ruled out for Sunday.
Other than that, the 49ers enter Week 1 relatively healthy. The team's two prized offseason pass-rushing acquisitions, veteran Dee Ford (knee) and rookie Nick Bosa (ankle), are expected to play.
"Yeah, he's ready to go," head coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday morning on KNBR. "We knew it was a tough injury. We weren't sure if we were going to get him back this week because any time you have a high-ankle (sprain), it could be anywhere from four to eight weeks. It's getting right up to four, and he's had three good practices this week, and he's ready to go."
