A maximum of four players on a team's practice squad can have two years of NFL experience. A player is credited with a year of experience after spending six games on the active roster. No player can spend more than three seasons on NFL practice squads.
Players on a practice squad can be claimed by any NFL team but must be placed on that team's active 53-player roster. The San Francisco 49ers spent Friday and Saturday trimming their roster down to the 53-player limit.
