On August 19 in the second preseason game on Monday night against the Denver Broncos, 49ers fans were excited the 27-year-old would make his preseason debut.
Garoppolo, who was put on the team's injured reserve list, returned from an ACL injury in a Week 3 loss last season against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Garoppolo played the first three series against the Broncos, and he did not have a strong performance with him going 1-of-6 for zero yards and an interception. Social media let him have it.
In the 49ers' Week 3 preseason victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, Garoppolo was 14-of-20 for 188 yards, no interceptions, and a nice 20-yard touchdown pass to running back Matt Breida.
Social media seems to have changed its tune.
The 49ers held on to beat the Chiefs 27-17.
Despite the first drive stalling on 4th-and-1, the 49ers, led by Garoppolo, scored 13 points through five drives.
The New England Patriots drafted Garoppolo out of Eastern Illinois in the second round of the 2014 draft and planned to groom him to be Tom Brady's successor.
On October 31, 2017, the Patriots traded Garoppolo to the 49ers in exchange for a second-round pick in 2018.
Garoppolo became a fan favorite of the 49ers after winning his first five starts with the team, which included wins over the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars, both of which made the playoffs.

Sports has been my first love since I was 12 years old. At one point I wanted to play football professionally. I started to take photography as a hobby in my teenage years but this was when I followed sports. I started to listen to sports radio, I found my true calling and it was to be a sports talk show host. Though I follow football and basketball, I started to have a new love of cultures around the world. After graduating from San Antonio College in 2018, I worked for the Castroville News Bulletin before going to A&M San Antonio to get my communications degree. Since I have written for the Ranger of San Antonio College, the News Bulletin and the Mesquite of Texas A&M San Antonio, I met many people and went to a lot of events. My major milestone was being in the press box of the San Antonio Commanders game for the Mesquite and being apart of a press conference with the Medina County Sheriff and other local news outlets. When I am not doing anything, I like to watch old cartoons on the DC Universe, play video games such as Mega Man and the Mass Effect series. I have also created Youtube channel called "Anger Management" with my friend Aaron Donnell.
