Shanahan provided the following injury updates after practice.
Tackle Joe Staley was held out of team drills.
"He went in, did some individual (drills), had some soreness in his [pectoral muscle]," Shanahan explained. "With us leaving right after this in about an hour to get on the plane, we didn't want to risk anything, so we pulled him out to be safe. We'll check it out when we get there."
Tight end George Kittle is day-to-day due to "some calf tightness" that he reported "a few days ago."
DT Jullian Taylor was kept out of practice as he deals with a stiff back.
LB Dre Greenlaw is dealing with a stinger sustained in practice on Tuesday and was in a blue no-contact jersey on Wednesday. He only participated in individual drills.
TE Levine Toilolo had some shoulder soreness and is day-to-day.
"I'd probably be surprised if [Toilolo is] going to be able to practice this week in Denver," Shanahan added.
DB Jimmie Ward (collarbone) is cleared to practice, but the coaches continue to be cautious by keeping him out of team drills. Shanahan said he would be surprised if Ward practices on Friday or Saturday in Denver.
"We know Jimmie is going to hit every single second he has a chance to, so we've got to protect him from himself a little bit," Shanahan said.
Edge Dee Ford is close to returning to practice, but Shanahan doesn't expect that to happen until next week at the earliest.
DE Nick Bosa has his walking boot off and was seen doing some light conditioning work with 49ers trainers during practice. Shanahan said he seems on track in his recovery from an ankle injury. The team hopes to have him available for Week 1 of the regular season.
