Update: Coleman also suffered a fractured fibula and had surgery on Sunday morning, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Coleman went down early during Saturday night's preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys and was carted off the field with an air cast placed over his leg. General manager John Lynch didn't sound optimistic about the injury while speaking with Greg Papa and Tim Ryan during the broadcast. Head coach Kyle Shanahan also sounded equally discouraged after the game but didn't have a report on the severity of the injury yet.
Matt Barrows of The Athletic later reported that the injury was feared to be season-ending.
Coleman was entering his fourth NFL season and second with the 49ers. San Francisco traded a 2019 seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for the offensive lineman on August 31, 2018. Coleman was expected to be the 49ers' swing tackle behind starters Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey.
