While the injury isn't serious, Rapoport expects the 49ers to be cautious with their talented rookie and could even hold him out of preseason games.
Update: An MRI revealed that cornerback Jason Verrett suffered a "minor ankle sprain," again, per Rapoport.
Bosa's injury occurred during a run play toward the end of team drills. He slowly left the field under his own power after trainers examined his right leg.
While the situation is not ideal, it is good news that the injury is not more serious.
Bosa missed most of the 49ers' organized team activities and the June minicamp after sustaining a low-grade hamstring strain. He has been full-go in practice since the start of training camp and has looked impressive going against his teammates.
"He's a really good football player, and he's polished," general manager John Lynch said last weekend during an interview on NFL Network. "A lot of guys, even if you pick them at two, there's a getting-used-to period, but he's such a polished football player. He's giving them fits already."
The 49ers in April used the No. 2 overall pick to select Bosa out of Ohio State. He had four sacks in three games last year with the Buckeyes. A core muscle injury sustained during Ohio State's third game ended his 2018 season. Bosa registered 77 combined tackles with 17.5 sacks in just over two college seasons.
"He's made some good plays," quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said on Wednesday of Bosa's training camp performance. "He's just a savvy rookie. To be able to play the run and pass the way he does, it's impressive."
