San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould is competing in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament this week at Edgewood Tahoe. There is no news on the contract negotiations between him and the team as Monday's deadline closes in. After that, no multi-year deal can be signed and Gould must either play on his one-year franchise-tag contract or sit out part or all of the season.

Of course, the 49ers could choose to trade or release the kicker should worse come to worse. Gould joined KNBR on Friday and didn't sound too confident that a deal would get done before the July 15 deadline nor was he even sure he would be the team's kicker come Week 1 of the regular season.


Gould was asked if he is going to be a Forty-Niner this season.

"I don't know," he responded during the "Murph and Mac" show. "My agent is going to handle it all, and I'm just excited to be out here playing golf, and excited to be home with my family and hanging out. It will take care of itself the way it's supposed to, and I'll let my agent handle it.

"If something comes up, they'll let me know."

Gould requested a trade in April, nearly two months after the 49ers used the non-exclusive franchise tag on him, which guarantees the kicker almost $5 million in 2019.

"There's deadlines and things that will kind of take part," Gould continued. "My agent, I got to the point where I just wanted him to handle it. I don't want to deal with it. I don't want to focus on it. We have things, deadlines, that the CBA allows to happen, and you make decisions as those happen."


Gould is content spending quality time with his family in the Chicago area or with his father, who is the kicker's caddie at the tournament this week.

"It's been nice to be at home with my kids this offseason and be able to be a dad," Gould added. "I've spent I think the last three years, I've had eight months away from my family. So it's been good to be home, be a dad, be a husband."

Rookie punter Mitch Wishnowsky, who could be holding for Gould if things work out, recently said he hoped to reach out to the veteran kicker during the team's break before training camp. Gould said he has not spoken to Wishnowsky yet.

Gould is preparing for his 15th NFL season with last year being his second with the 49ers. The team hopes it wasn't his last.
