San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is fast, and he wants everyone to know it. The 2020 Olympic Games aren't the only non-football event in which he plans to take part. Goodwin will race other NFL stars in a pay-per-view event mean to determine who is the fastest player in football, according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal.

The event, named "Forty Yards of Gold," will be priced at $39.95 and take place at the BB&T Center, home of the NHL's Florida Panthers, on June 29. It will consist of 16 players taking part in 15 races to determine the game's fastest man.


Ourand lists Ted Ginn Jr., Alvin Kamara, Robby Anderson, Trae Waynes, Donte Jackson, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie as others involved in the single-elimination tournament.

The event will take place about two weeks into a six-week period that 49ers players have off, meaning it will not interfere with any team-specific activities. Following the conclusion of this week's mandatory minicamp, players will not be required to report back to Santa Clara until training camp in late-July.

Goodwin, 28, announced in April that he is aiming to take part in next year's Olympics. That event, however, would have some overlap with next offseason's training camp and he would need permission from the 49ers to participate.

Goodwin is a two-time NCAA long jump champion and posted a broad jump of 11 feet at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine. He was a member of the 2012 United States track and field team and finished tenth in the long jump at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The 49ers initially signed Goodwin to a two-year deal on March 9, 2017, and then signed him to a three-year extension on March 8, 2018. He is under contract through the 2021 season.


Goodwin caught 23 passes for 395 yards with four touchdowns through 11 games and eight starts with the 49ers last season.
