Schrager on Thursday debated his Good Morning Football co-host Nate Burleson on which Bay Area team will have a better shot at a bounce-back season — the 49ers or the Oakland Raiders. Burleson argued for the Jon Gruden-led team while Schrager made his case for the Kyle Shanahan-led squad.
Good Morning Football also asked which NFL team (not just between the Raiders and 49ers) will have the most entertaining offense in 2019. Schrager again went with San Francisco.
What were the reasons behind Schrager's selection? For one, the 49ers have Shanahan, who he considers to be one of the best offensive minds in football.
San Francisco is also expected to be healthier in 2019 and will get back quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Jerick McKinnon. The offense was without both for most of last season (all of last season in the case of McKinnon).
Schrager also likes the offensive weapons the 49ers added via the draft in wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd. They will join an offense that already has Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle and second-year receiver Dante Pettis.
"The guys are there," Schrager continued. "The offensive line is really good. I think he's never had in his two seasons with the Niners, Kyle Shanahan hasn't had healthy guys, and finally, they are. Let's hope they can stay that way.
"But I think a full offseason with Garoppolo and the playbook, all these additions on offense, I think Jerick McKinnon with Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida, I'm here for it. The weapons are finally there.
"Niners, offense, Kyle Shanahan. Put yourself in that (Sean) McVay conversation."
Entertaining would be an upgrade over 2018 when the 49ers offense ranked No. 21 in scoring.
Burleson, by the way, went with the Baltimore Ravens while Kay Adams went with the New Orleans Saints.
H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.
