Lynch and Shanahan signed six-year deals upon taking on the task of rebuilding the iconic and once-proud franchise. While their jobs may not necessarily be on the line entering their third seasons with the 49ers, what happens in 2019 will be very telling, assuming the injury issues are rectified.
NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah joined KNBR on Monday morning and was asked if this upcoming draft was a particularly important one for Lynch and the 49ers.
"Absolutely," Jeremiah responded on the "Murph and Mac" show. "I think this whole year, and it starts with the draft, is a pivotal year for both the general manager and the head coach. They've got to get the quarterback to stay healthy, and they've got to put the pieces around him where they can start showing some progress.
"I think this is a huge year, and one of the reasons when you kind of look at their options on what they can potentially do (in the draft), I just keep coming back to the same thing, especially if Kyler Murray goes No. 1. I just think (with) Bosa, you're putting that thing right in the middle of the fairway. To me, that would be the no-brainer pick."
