Goodwin, 28, is a two-time NCAA long jump champion and posted a broad jump of 11 feet at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine. He was a member of the 2012 United States track and field team and finished tenth in the long jump at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency announced in August of 2017 that Goodwin had accepted a one-year suspension for failing to file and maintain his whereabouts to the committee. The suspension started on April 1, 2017.
"Marquise informed our organization quite some time ago that he has no intentions of competing in track and field and has been entirely focused on his football career for more than a year," The 49ers said via a statement. "We have been in touch with the League office regarding this matter, and understand that Marquise will not be subject to discipline under the NFL Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances as a result of USADA's decision."

"More than a year ago, I decided to cease competing in the sport in order to concentrate 100 percent on my NFL career," Goodwin said via the statement issued by the 49ers. "Therefore, I discontinued all practices associated with competing in track and field, including submitting my 'Whereabouts' information.
"It appears that because I did not inform USADA of my plans, my name was inadvertently included in their 2017 testing pool."
With his suspension long over, it looks like Goodwin is trying to work his way back into the Olympic Games. He has not competed in track and field since 2016 when he went through the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Goodwin, who initially signed with the 49ers in March of 2017, is signed through the 2021 season. The Buffalo Bills made him a third-round selection out of Texas in 2013.
Goodwin registered 23 receptions for 395 yards with four touchdowns through 11 games and eight starts with the 49ers in 2018. He has caught 128 passes for 2,137 yards with 12 touchdowns through his six NFL seasons.
