The 49ers made Taylor a fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech in 2017. He impressed during his rookie campaign with 43 catches for 430 yards and two touchdowns through 15 games and one start. Taylor's recovery from offseason back surgery set him back in 2018 when he hauled in just 26 catches for 215 yards with a touchdown.
"I feel like my back is back to normal now," Taylor told NBC Sports Bay Area in February. "I just knew that I needed a little more time than I was able to get throughout the season. That's why I've been really looking forward to this offseason.
"(I'm) getting back to building my body up the right way. I'm feeling great right now. We're going to continue working on that and building myself up so I can be ready to have a great season [in 2019]."
So if you bought a No. 81 Trent Taylor jersey, as our own Matt Barr did, you might be out of luck.
Or maybe not...
It is important to note that Terrell Owens being inducted into the 49ers Hall of Fame this season does not mean his No. 81 jersey with the team is being retired. It is unlikely to be.
Another interesting note is that new 49ers wide receiver Jordan Matthews wore No. 81 during his first stint with the Philadelphia Eagles.
No. 15 became available with the departure of veteran wide receiver Pierre Garçon.
