Update: The 49ers announced that the team has signed Nzeocha to a three-year deal.
The Dallas Cowboys made Nzeocha a seventh-round draft pick out of Wyoming in 2015. He spent three seasons in Dallas before signing with San Francisco on September 25, 2017. Nzeocha appeared in 10 games and recorded four special teams tackles during his first year with the 49ers.
Nzeocha has recorded 22 combined tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in 2018 while primarily serving as a special teams contributor for most of the year. He did, however, start three games this past season, including two of the final four.
"Mark's done a real good job for us," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on December 7. "He's done a really good job on special teams. He started out this year as our starting SAM linebacker and then when we had all of our backers healthy, he went back to a prominent special teams role when [Malcolm Smith] was at the SAM."
Shanahan continued, "Mark runs and hits, and usually if you run and hit, you're a pretty good special teams player."
