That isn't what Rich Eisen of NFL Network has been hearing.
"What I'm hearing is that Arizona has communicated that they are standing pat (with Josh Rosen)," Eisen said on air during the defensive back workouts on Monday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
"In that case, I hope they have that conversation with Josh ahead of time," responded analyst Daniel Jeremiah.
Reports have been stating that the Cardinals are interested in shopping Rosen with many speculating where the quarterback would go after just one season in Arizona.
Before Pauline's report, Kim Jones of NFL Network and Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reported buzz from Indianapolis that most were starting to believe that the Cardinals would use the top pick on Murray. That would leave the 49ers, who select No. 2 overall and don't have a need at quarterback, with the player of their choice.
"In terms of Murray, people are beginning to believe almost universally he will indeed be the No. 1 pick in this draft by the Arizona Cardinals," Jones reported on-air on Saturday.
Then came Pauline's report on Sunday.
"Adding fuel to the Murray fire, Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury was telling people last night that it's a 'done deal' the Cardinals will select the Oklahoma Sooners quarterback with the first pick of the draft," wrote Pauline. "Whether or not Kingsbury has the final say on the choice remains to be seen, but stay tuned."
Like last year, we may not know who goes No. 1 overall until draft day. But there seems to be a lot of mixed reports and speculation surrounding what the Cardinals might do, which could drum up trade interest for that top selection. Pauline also reported on Sunday that the rumor is the Oakland Raiders are looking to package a number of picks to move up for Murray.
The 49ers are likely preparing for every scenario come April.
