General manager John Lynch informed reporters on Thursday that Mayhew will now serve as the 49ers' vice president of player personnel. His profile page on the team's official website has already been updated to reflect his new position.
As Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported, both Mayhew and Adam Peters now hold the title of vice president of player personnel but both have different roles within the 49ers front office.
Mayhew served as a general manager with the Detroit Lions from 2008 until 2015. The Carolina Panthers interviewed him for their general manager opening — a role that eventually went to Marty Hurney.
