Klis did not specify for which role Woods was interviewing. The 49ers have an opening for a new defensive backs coach, a role Woods held with the Broncos before replacing Wade Phillips as the defensive coordinator in 2017. San Francisco's former defensive backs coach, Jeff Hafley, left to become a co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State.
Woods is still part of the Broncos staff. The team, however, recently named Vic Fangio as its new head coach and he is expected to bring in new personnel to populate his staff. Woods was given permission last week to interview for other jobs and has been doing so, including interviews with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Redskins.
Woods, 48, has spent the past four seasons with the Broncos. He was the defensive backs coach with the Oakland Raiders (2014), Minnesota Vikings (2006–13), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2004–2005) before that and has 15 years of NFL experience coaching on the defensive side of the ball.
