Ferguson has been with the 49ers for 13 seasons while serving the past two as the team's vice president of medical services/head athletic trainer. He oversaw the team's medical and nutritional needs, rehabilitation procedures, injury records, nutritional program, training room, and daily athletic training duties.
The 49ers finished this past season with 14 players on injured reserve after ending 2017 with 20 on the list.
"It's been too big of a deal for two years," head coach Kyle Shanahan said the day after the 49ers' final game of the season. "Injuries are pretty random, but it's also affected us huge. So, that's something that we definitely have to sit back and really look at it from all angles and put a lot of time into. Just try to find a better perspective at it."
