Head coach Kyle Shanahan discussed his running backs during a KNBR interview on Wednesday morning.
"I think they are getting healthier," Shanahan said. "I think Breida, he didn't have any setbacks last week versus the Cardinals. It is coming off a few days, so no one is that fresh for tomorrow.
"He's had some setbacks the last couple of weeks, and he didn't have one versus Arizona, so I think he's on his way to getting better. Hopefully, he can get through this game without a setback and then we'll get our first rest of the year."
Breida has been banged up this season. He separated his shoulder during the 49ers' exhibition opener — an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the preseason. Since then, Breida has dealt with knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries.
Mostert has averaged 6.5 yards per carry filling in for an ailing Breida. Both appeared on this week's injury reports.
"Raheem got banged up last week, so this is his first time going into a game this year banged up," Shanahan said.
It's still unknown who will start at quarterback when the 49ers offense takes the field against the Raiders. C.J. Beathard is dealing with right wrist and thumb injuries and may not be able to play. Nick Mullens would start if Beathard cannot go.
The 49ers and Raiders kick off from Levi's Stadium at 5:20 p.m.
