One of the topics of discussion was 49ers rookie linebacker Fred Warner, who ranks in the top 10 in total tackles with 50. Sherman has been impressed with Warner, who wears the green communications sticker on his helmet during games.
"He's a hard worker," Sherman said. "He's been incredibly poised in every situation. There's a lot that goes into wearing a green sticker and calling plays. Sometimes the mic gets cut off in the middle of a play call, and he has to improvise. Sometimes the offense hurries to the line, and he has to call a play. All 10 guys are looking at him.
"He's done a phenomenal job, though. He's stayed locked in. He's stayed poised. He knows situations, and you've got to tip your cap to him."
Warner will be communicating the plays designed to defend against Rams quarterback Jared Goff, whose 1,928 passing yards rank fourth among quarterbacks. Goff is now in his third NFL season and has improved significantly since his rookie campaign.
"He's just more confident," Sherman said of Goff. "He seems to believe in their offense. Obviously, [Rams head coach Sean McVay]'s scheme is very intricate and detailed, but he's been great at grasping and understanding it. He has a ton of playmakers, and they've only surrounded him with more.
"He seems to have a great rapport with Sean. Their relationship has thrived. Their offense has thrived. He's protected well. A lot has changed since his rookie year."
The 1-5 49ers and 6-0 Rams kick off on Sunday at 1:25 p.m. PT.
