With a need to fill a spot at quarterback, San Francisco is bringing in veteran Tom Savage for a workout, according to a report from ESPN insider Jordan Schultz.
The Houston Texans made Savage a fourth-round draft pick in 2014. He started nine games for the team between 2016 and 2017. His best season came last year when he completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions. Savage opened the season as the Texans starter in 2017 but was benched during Week 1 in favor of then-rookie Deshaun Watson.
Savage took over as the starter again after Watson's season-ending ACL injury and was the Texans quarterback for six games before his own season ended after suffering a concussion during a Week 14 matchup against the 49ers. He was placed on injured reserve on December 23, 2017.
The New Orleans Saints signed Savage to a one-year deal on March 16 but released him on September 1.
