"John Lynch, the 49ers GM, did a lot of Dez Bryant's games at his peak when Lynch was a broadcaster," Pelissero said on NFL Network. "There's a respect there, but my understanding is the 49ers love their receiver group as it is with Pierre Garçon, Marquise Goodwin, they drafted wide receiver Dante Pettis in the second round. (It's) unlikely they're going down the Dez Bryant road anytime soon."
The Bryant-to-49ers chatter won't seem to go away as long as he remains available. Within the category of "Take this for what it is worth," Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report believes the free agent receiver will get his wish and end up in San Francisco.
"The best guess from those around the league is Bryant will get his wish to play with the 49ers, but that isn't a done deal by any means," wrote Freeman on Wednesday. "With training camps set to open soon, we should know more in a few weeks."
Of course, this report appears to be based mostly on speculation at this point.
One 49ers player who would welcome Bryant is veteran cornerback Richard Sherman. The former Seattle Seahawk who signed with San Francisco in March reportedly likes the idea of adding Bryant to the roster.
Said cornerback Will Blackmon on NFL Network: "I actually talked to Richard Sherman, and I asked him, 'Would you welcome Dez on your team?' He said, 'I would love to have Dez here. He's a competitor.' He said he would be really good in the locker room, so you can throw [locker room distraction concerns] out the window."
Bryant registered 531 catches for 7,459 yards with a franchise-record 73 touchdowns during his eight seasons in Dallas.
