Alexander registered 125 combined tackles, 4.5 for a loss, a sack, seven interceptions, 17 passes defensed, and a forced fumble during his three seasons with the Hokies, per Sports Reference.
Teams interested in Alexander can place a bid on him during the supplemental draft on July 11. The bid must be in the form of a 2019 draft pick. Since draft positioning will not be finalized until the end of the upcoming season, teams need only indicate which round it would select a prospect. The team with the winning bid receives the rights to the player but loses that round's selection.
The two other players entering the supplemental draft are cornerback Sam Beal of Western Michigan and safety Brandon Bryant of Mississippi State.
"No player has been selected in the NFL's supplemental draft since 2015 when the Rams took tackle Isaiah Battle in the fifth round," writes Sacramento Bee reporter Matt Barrows.
Alexander's size is comparable to other cornerbacks on the 49ers roster. For example, at their respective combines, Richard Sherman measured 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds with an arm length of 32 inches while Ahkello Witherspoon measured in with the similar height (6-3), weight (198), and arm length (33).
Barrows provided the following results from Alexander's workout.
Size: 6-2, 195 lbs
Vertical jump: 35.5 inches
Broad jump: 10 feet, 4 inches
Bench press: 9 repetitions of 225 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.61 seconds
short shuttle: 4.39 seconds
Three-cone drill: 7.18 seconds
