Foster was sentenced to two years of probation, 232 hours of community service instead of a 30-day work sentence, $235 in fines, and is not allowed to be in possession of guns or ammo during his probation. Robert Salonga of the Mercury News reports that Foster was not in court when the sentence was determined.
The charge, possession of an assault weapon, was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor when Judge Nona Klippen dropped the two charges related to domestic violence on May 23. Foster's ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, accused the linebacker of domestic violence resulting in his arrest on February 11. Responding police found a loaded Sig Sauer 516 rifle on the floor of a bathroom within Foster's home while another gun was found under the mattress within a guest bedroom, which resulted in the weapons charge.
Ennis later testified that the charges against Foster were based on her lies and the judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the domestic violence case against the NFL star.
Foster was also arrested in January for second-degree marijuana possession in Alabama. That charge was dismissed after he completed a diversion course in the state.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the NFL is still "mulling" a multi-game suspension of Foster.
