The 49ers signed Garoppolo to a five-year deal on February 8 worth up to $137.5 million. The deal's length matches up nicely with the six-year deals that general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan received from the 49ers last year. This offseason is Garoppolo's first with the 49ers.
San Francisco acquired Garoppolo via a trade with the New England Patriots on October 30, 2017. While he entered the end of the 49ers' Week 12 game against the Seattle Seahawks following an injury to rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard, Garoppolo wasn't named the starter until the next week against the Chicago Bears. He finished the season by leading the 49ers on a five-game win streak, which included three consecutive victories against playoff teams (Titans, Jaguars, Rams) in the final three games.
In five starts and six game appearances with the 49ers in 2017, Garoppolo completed 120-of-178 pass attempts for 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns, five interceptions, a passer rating of 96.2, and even had a rushing touchdown.
One player who will not take part in team activities is linebacker Reuben Foster. While he will not take part in team meetings or organized activities, it is unknown if Foster will have access to resources at the facility as his legal situation unfolds.
"Reuben Foster will not participate in team activities as he is tending to his legal matters," said 49ers CEO Jed York, general manager John Lynch, and head coach Kyle Shanahan via a statement issued by the team on Sunday. "As previously stated, his future with the team will be determined by the information revealed during the legal process."
