The 6-foot-5, 228-pound Tate separated his shoulder during the 2017 season but still had an impressive enough junior year where he started eight of 12 game appearances while registering 40 receptions for 548 yards with a team-high 10 touchdowns. In 2016, he recorded 25 receptions for 409 yards with six touchdowns in 13 games.
Tate's draft stock fell following a disappointing 4.68-second 40-time at the NFL Scouting Combine. However, his size would easily make him the tallest and biggest receiver on the roster. At the moment, Max McCaffrey is the tallest at 6-foot-2 while Pierre Garçon is the biggest with a listed weight of 211 pounds.
NFL.com projects Tate to be a fourth- or fifth-round selection in this month's draft.
Lance Zierlein of NFL Media says the following about Tate:
"Tate's speed and quickness limitations could make finding an NFL role for him challenging if he's unable to create enough separation for quarterbacks to target him. What he does have going for him is that he can catch through contact and has very good ball skills -- especially near the endzone. Tate's toughness and willingness to play through a shoulder injury this year will stand out to teams. Tate will be targeted by teams looking for a matchup weapon with value as a zone beater and red zone target."
